Wazzup meets Jaquae

jaquae fldjsmcIn the heart of Charlotte, NC for the Fleet DJ’s music conference, I attended a showcase concert at the Trust Bar & Lounge. Coming to the stage is this high energy, full of life individual. All my associates could say was that he was full of energy and has total control of the stage. You could tell from the way he carried himself during his performance that he definitely has a love for hip hop and for music. From the beginning to the middle of his set, all I kept thinking to myself was who the hell is he?! I’ve got to interview him and get to know who this person is, because he’s got me so intrigued.

Then the base drops, and slowly drowns into the lyrics, “it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…brush my teeth…put on some cloths…” and I’m like oh shit…I heard this song before.  I got a bit excited, and was like ok, now I really got to get to know his story as to who he is and why he has a love to music.

Meet Jaquae. Born in Harlem, NY and raised in Dillon, SC. He was a back up dancer for in the Hood President’s Crew that worked with Jason Fox, a former Island Def Jam artist. He later meets up with Fred the Godson, and travels the world as his hypeman. “He kept saying to me, ‘you should be an artist,’ and I’m like an artist?! I can’t do that and be a hypeman too”. Through persistence, he creates his first single entitled “Bigg Booty Judy”. He later did “That’s HARR,” an acronym for “How you Apply yourself Reflects your Role” that landed a placement in EXPOSED staring Keanu Reeves.

“My Pieces Hitt’n is a song that I’ve pushed for a year, and recently got signed to EONE,” Jaquae explains. Once it hit radio stations and social media was buzzing about it, he got featured on BET MUSIC MATTERS, and other shows. His hard work started paying off. “What made it feel surreal to me, is when I was walking through a mall, and people started recognizing me and wanting to take pictures and a girl was crying saying she listens to my song all the time…which was crazy to me, ” he reminisces. “To think that at one point no one knew me, to now I’m being asked for autographs is surreal to me.”

I can definitely see him in the future being on tv screens and such because his wordplay and high energy makes the entire room pay attention to him. He’s unquestionable a star that will become legendary for years to come.
