Stop living in false realities

Hamtrackz | Stop Living in False RealitiesA lot of up and coming music artists thinks that having talent is all and hoping and praying to be unearthed by the right A&R or the right Music Executive. You’ve been in the booth, recorded some sizzling 16bars, and now you’re equipped to generate millions by uploading the masterpiece on iTunes, right? WRONG!. Have you watched the TLC Movie? There’s copyright law, ISRC, Media Base, Sound Scan, publishing, contracts, list goes on and on. Sounds like a lot?

Understand, a lot of indie artists may turn their nose up on what’s hot right now, and that’s fine and dandy. However, isn’t your quench to be on the radio? Wasn’t the game plan to be able to rock out the masses? Artists need to learn the importance of the business aspect of the industry, because you never want a situation of your ‘balls’ being in someone else’s hands. Instead of turning your nose up, and getting on the latest mix tapes and shoving singles on Tunecore and other digital music distribution outlets, they should study more strategies to get it to the masses and capitalize on it as much as possible. If you’re gonna put it on a mixtape, make sure that the person hosting it has a significant fanbase so that your music can reach their audience so that you can gain more fans. If you’re gonna have a single pushed to the radio, make sure the proper paperwork is complete so that you can gain royalties from streams and spins by having it registered on Nielsen BDS certified stations (and yes….some internet stations are registered under Nielsen BDS) so that you can gain money from that. That’s called working SMARTER not harder.

So as you can see there’s more to it than just hopping on a mic and spitting some hot bars or tunes. It is a business, and the moment you grab the mic, you are NOW a business owner. Start handling it as such, and maybe…just maybe….the world will respect your brand as a star and business owner and not just as a local celebrity. Those are just my thoughts for the day…
