Grammy Edition | 59th Grammy Award’s – Comprehensive List of Nominees and Winners | @wazzuptonight
New York, NY – True to fashion, the 59th Grammy Awards came equipped with the Stars and Sounds from some of the best musicians in the World, on one night, on one platform to receive recognition for their respective body of work. The night opened with a most epic performance of Adele singing her smash hit “Hello”. Hosted by James Corden, the night was filled with thrills and surprises as each presenter frantically opened each envelope to reveal the winners!
The first presenter of the night was the eloquent Jennifer Lopez, who vividly reminisced to winning her first Grammy and how music is needed to inspire.” She quoted the Legendary Toni Morrison:
“‘There is not time for despair no place for self-pity, no need for silence and no room for fear,’”
she stated, before opening the envelope to announce the Best New Artist, which went to Chance the Rapper. The night went on to include Paris Jackson, The Weeknd, Nic Jonas, Katharine McPhee, and the Chainsmokers who presented the Best Rock Song, which went to “Blackstar” by David Bowie.
Tina Knowles, mother of Solange and Beyonce Knowles, took the stage with a powerful introduction of Beyonce~ “With a mother’s pride, my daughter, Beyonce,” she said.
A video along with a live Beyonce switched back and forth while a track of her voice whispered, “You look nothing like your mother. You look everything like your mother … Your mother is a woman and women like her cannot be contained.”
On cue, Beyonce appeared dressed in a gold gown, draped by dozens of dancers. Beyonce blessed the crowd with a performance that included two songs from her highly acclaimed “Lemonade” album. The crowd paid homage by giving her a standing ovation that included a very proud husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy.
Despite Beyonce epic performance, Adele was the night’s biggest winner with the honor for Song of the Year for “Hello” and best pop vocal album and pop solo performance. Adele’s biggest competition for the prestigious honor was Beyoncé. Their competition for album of the year was well noted and anticipated by those in the industry.
The tear-jerker moment of the night came from the award nominations for Legendary Rocker, David Bowie who won three of the four categories he was nominated for his works on his “Blackstar” project. The “Blackstar” signifies the last album recorded before he lost his battle with cancer last year.
Chance the Rapper won the best new artist award and best rap album for Coloring Book, over Drake and Kanye West. Twenty one pilots won best pop duo/group performance for the hit Stressed Out in which they came to the podium to accept the award pantless.
Adele performed a tribute for George Michael with a rendition of songs from his last project, Fastlove. Bruno Mars then followed up with a tribute to Prince, who subsequently died unexpectedly in 2016.
Overall, the 59th Grammy Award’s was a brilliant display of talent ~ Renzo
