Exclusive Interview

With the new single “All I Want” trending on all platforms and available on Bentley Records Worldwide, what would you say about the record that fans should know? Tell us about the songwriting process? Where did you draw the inspiration?

The record was produced by Myles William. He produced Beyoncé’s “Freedom” record.  I met him at a songwriting competition.  He was one of the judges. We connected, he hooked me up with a beat. I actually wrote a majority of the song in my head while driving to NY for a show.  I came up with the melody and the words fell into place.  I’ve always been one to write for the ladies. There is a special lady in my life so it’s safe to say she was the inspiration.

Tell us about the visual, who directed the video?

My boy J Papers directed the video.  I wrote the treatment and came up with the concept.  I actually met J Papers at that same show in NY I was driving too when I wrote the track, lol. He was a cool dude and I felt we should collab after checking out his work.

Can we expect a full length album soon? New single coming?

I’m currently recording on my debut album with Bentley, I am just recording a bunch of tracks now and will pick the best.  I must say I have some dope tracks recorded.  I am thinking about dropping it sometime this summer.  Until then I want to release a mixtape of some of my older songs called “Lost Files.”  They are all dope and the world should definitely hear them, although I have grown some musically from then. I am thinking about doing a remix for “All I Want” then “Last Time” featuring BK Army will be my next single after that.

Tell us about your experience with Bentley Records since signing in August 2016?

Man, Bentley has been dope as hell definitely helping me grow in my artistry.  We have some big things lined up.  We have a show in London in April and a big feature coming up.  I don’t want to give too much away.

We’ve been hearing a lot of positive moves coming out of the DMV area, how would you describe the vibe?

The DMV is a unique place.  It’s always had a plethora of talent.  A lot of famous singers came from here in the past.  In the past few years the rap scene has been really flourishing.  The only problem with this area is they aren’t as supportive as other states.  We seem to have that crabs in a barrel mentality so to make it here you have to really put the work in.

You are known as one of the biggest songwriters in the Industry, any plans in the future to write for any big names or projects?

Yeah man, I actually co-wrote Luca Dayz upcoming single with Warner Records.  I think it’s going to be huge.  It features my label mate West Crav, I think it’s some of my best songwriting to date.  I am also working on a few tracks for Atlantic Records that I plan on placing for their artists.  Of course I am still writing for my upcoming album as well.

How was it working with your label mates BK Army on your single “Last Time”?

It was dope. BK Army is from Paris, France.  This was actually the first time I collaborated with an artist from a different country.  We actually shot a video to the some over there and everything.  They came off with a real swagged out vibe on the track.  It was hot!

We been spinning that “Boomerang” joint featuring Kaygen Miles from the Measure of Success project! Yo that shit is hotttt! How did that joint come to life?

Thanks bro!  I actually had one of my homies Mike Barney produce that track from scratch.  I told him I wanted a DJ Mustard type pop vibe.  As soon as I heard the beat I started freestyling the hook.  I was going for a Chris Brown type feel.  All I needed was someone to have that CB voice I was looking for.  Mike put me in contact with Kaygen and from there the rest was a rap.

What would you tell a new fan about you as a person that might not come through as transparent in your music?

I am real down to earth, humble and respectful.  They can come up and talk to me and I will speak back.  I am also big on helping out the community.  I am in the process of starting an initiative to help lower income kids learn about financial stability.  I think that is very important towards success.

What’s a typical day like these days for BigTyme?

It’s all work bro.  I get up go to my 9 to 5.  Yes I still work until this music really pops off.  I go through my to-do list for the day. Knocking off the tasks I can throughout the day.  At the same time I am jotting down ideas and finding inspiration for new songs.  I generally get home, work on my music for 30 mins.  Then I go to the gym.  At this time it’s about 8pm.  I spend time with my family for a few hours then work on some personal projects. I am generally in the bed by 1am.

What do success look like from Big Tyme’s viewpoint?

Success to me is financial freedom.  Going where and doing what I want.  I also want to be a point where I can provide well-paying jobs for my family and friends so they don’t have to struggle.  More importantly I want help the underprivileged.  You are never truly successful until you give back!

What bothers you on how the industry is going?

I hate how the industry seems to be so shady.  Everybody seems to be out for self, which is cool.  But don’t shit on people or scam them on the way.  If you are really good at your craft there is plenty of money to make out there for everyone.

Last but not least, we see you are a family man; with that being said, what is important in your life, both musically and actual?

Providing a means for my family.  Family is so important and I don’t think enough people realize that.  They are your foundation.  If you don’t have a solid family base then there will be issues as you grow into an adult.  Then more than likely you will not be able to provide a solid foundation for your family and the cycle continues.  Everything starts with home.  I was just blessed to have a mom who reared me up right.

Once again, Thank You dearly for the kind gesture!

No problem, thank you for the opportunity.  Much Love!
