In a short amount of time River Green’s music has garnered enough traction to earn him shows with national recording hip-hop artists T.I. & Tyga, airplay on WBTF |107.9 FM The Beat, and a 2015 nomination for Best New Artist in Kentucky.

He is one of the most talked about rap artist you may not be talking about. Ye,

when it comes to humble beginnings, River Greene knows all about them.

From the start, the up-and-coming rapper from Lexington, Kentucky has had the odds stacked against him, a troubled childhood, life in and out of group homes and lock down facilities. Eventually turning to the streets to make ends meet.

While many would have wilted and waned under such circumstances, Greene has bloomed.

“I don’t rap about money, cars, and bitches like a lot of people do,” he says.

“I stick to what I feel is true when I make music. Raised on Lil Wayne, Master P, Dmx, and Tupac, Greene started crafting rhymes around the age of 12 when his father introduced him to the latter.

“My whole life my dad’s been in and out. I’m not sure if that’s affected me subconsciously or what.”

Using music as an antidote to heal his childhood wounds and stay out of trouble, Greene honed his skill over the course of a decade.

Trouble, however, was unavoidable, and by the time he turned 18 he got kicked out of the house, and found himself serving a six-month jail sentence. “I got caught with a gun.”

Following his release, Greene put all of his efforts into music and his career began to flourish. In 2014 at the age of 19, he inked a record deal with emerging entertainment label K.O.A.T. Kreative and issued his debut project River Work, a collaboration with DJ Testarosa.

That same year he came out with a follow-up effort dubbed River Work II, a 12-track opus that speaks of the trials and tribulations of everyday life, which got him featured in Makin It Magazine, Atlanta’s #1 urban print publication, and an interview with Lexington’s The Mixx Magazine.

Having recently completed work on his third project titled Best Not Talked About, River Greene is on course to increasing his live show presence, and has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

“I really don’t have anything else in life. I don’t do well in school; I don’t do well with this 9-5 stuff. Music is a journal for me. I’m a storyteller. I tell every little detail with no fabrication.”
