Brooklyn, NY – Who is that MC from Crown Heights? Hands down, you must immediately refer to Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave. These day’s it seems everybody and their momma has a lot to say about Troy Ave; however, I’d rather stick to his great music. Troy is back in the news with his much anticipated full-length LP, “Roland Collins“. The lp is the result of 3 days exiled in jail on attempted murder charges stemming from a concert shooting at New York’s Irving Plaza. Talking about drawing motivation! Since 2009, 1 album and 9 mixtapes can be attributed to the rappers legendary work ethic. To use lament terms, it seems safe to say that Troy’s ups the ante with this album, and goes In for the juggler.
The “Roland Collins” album features production from some of the Worlds most sought producers! The line-up resembles the cast of the Soprano’s, lol – Chase N. Cashe, Rubi Rosa, Robbie Nova, Yankee, Trilogy, John Scino and Cito on the Beat.
While Troy Ave might have a mass of other things on his mind, it is clear that his focus these days is on the prize. The BSB rapper decided to name the album simply “Roland Collins” in lieu of his government name! The “NEW”, New York as some would call the outspoken rapper; Troy Ave just wants to bring back whats been missing= Real Hip-Hop! With the World watching his every move through court controlled measures, Troy Ave professes his innocence and looks forward to vindication! Troy uses the 10-track project to address his case. The actual cover of the album is a photo of Troy sitting in a wheelchair while in court.
“I am innocent,” he raps. “Why the hell they acting like I did it? / Only family and beautiful women see me on visits / And I never miss one / And I miss my two sons.”
One thing is Clear; Troy has a way of expression that resonates with the streets. A true pioneer in the game who is famous for the Major without a deal persona! I for one, just hope that when the smoke clears, Troy Ave is standing to tell his story on wax for generations to come!
