Los Angeles, CA – “The New Celebrity Apprentice” premiered last night, with Arnold Schwarzenegger taking over for President-elect/original host of the show Donald Trump. While we’re sure the network (NBC) and the show’s cast were looking forward to Monday night’s debut, apparently viewers/fans were not.
In comparison to the reality show’s previous opener back in 2015, last night’s premiere ratings were down a whopping 44%. That means nearly half of the people that watched the show’s opener in 2015, did not tune in to last night’s episode. Critics are now trying to determine why the popular reality show took such a drastic blow regarding the ratings.
NBC has stated, last night The New Celebrity Apprentice faced heavy competition for male viewers from ESPN’s Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl coverage. Some say the show’s 2-year hiatus is to blame for the decline. The show’s schedule has change from Sunday to Monday, and perhaps that had something to do with the fall. Could Schwarzenegger replacing Trump have caused it? The most popular speculation thus far – is that the people chose to boycott the show due to Trump winning the presidency!
President-elect Trump received heavy animosity and criticism after winning 2016’s presidential election. During his campaign, Trump was labeled by many as ignorant, thoughtless, and racist; as a result, Trump defeating Hilary Clinton and replacing Commander-in-chief Barack Obama in the Oval Office’s chair inevitably triggered a mass hysteria and nationwide rebellion. Donald Trump is still executive producer of The Celebrity Apprentice, therefore it’s suggested that millions have sworn off watching the show given the President-elect’s ongoing attachment to the series.
Nonetheless, word is former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger did a stand up job as the reality show’s latest host. Trump’s catch phrase “You’re fired”, is ultimately what gave The Apprentice it’s notoriety, and so most tuning in last night were mainly there to see what Schwarzenegger would say prior to dismissing a participant. In the end, TV personality Carrie Keagan was the first to be fired by Schwarzenegger and he hit her with the punchline that deep down our inner child screamed for him to say – “Carrie, you’re TERMINATED”.
