Lil STL Discusses New “Came Up” Track

Lil STL chats with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson about budding career.

Rising St. Louis lyricist Lil STL artist has been rhyming for about 15 years. During that time, he’s toured with 2Chainz, opened up for Yo Gotti and collaborated with artists like

St. Lunatics members Nelly, Murphy Lee, Chingy and more.

STL’s “Whitney & Bobby” record is currently on rotation on BET Network and garnered 36,000 views on YouTube.

I checked with STL by phone after a recent press run in NYC. Check out our Q&A below.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: How’s was your trip to New York?

Lil STL: It was great and my first time so it was a lot different than I expected. like I expected New Yorkers to be real critical but they were genuine it was cool they showed me love.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: What did you get into?

Lil STL: I linked up with the blogs All Hip Hop, The Source Magazine and Hip Hop Weekly. I also attended Source 360 weekend.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: I know you said it was your first time…what did you see that was different between St. Louis and NY?

Lil STL: The traffic especially people traffic. The city is so big 5 boroughs like with subways and all that which we don’t have down here cause is much smaller feel me? It was definitely an experience.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: So what are you working on now?

Lil STL: I just drop two singles “Came Up” and “Switch” now available on iTunes and Spotify. Recently I dropped ” Whitney and Bobby” and its doing its causing anticipation.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: Who are some of your influences, I know Nelly and The St. Lunatics paved the way for St. Louis artists is it the same for you?

Lil STL: Most definitely! Nelly and them really made me feel like it was possible for my generation, like if they can do it I can to. Then came Chingy and other acts so it was a big influence what they did. I’ve had a chance to work with Nelly and build a relationship over the years.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: What’s the best advice you’ve received so far on your journey?

Lil STL: Stay ready and you ain’t got to get ready and have patience.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: How long have you been rapping?

Lil STL: About 15 years now.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: Who have you worked with?

Lil STL: As I said Nelly, Yo Gotti, Paul Wall, Shawty Lo…I’ve worked with J Fizzle from Paper Route and more.

Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson: Where do you ultimately see yourself.

Lil STL: On Top…I wanna do it like Master P and Diddy and be an entrepreneur. I want to be fully independent and have my own artists. I’m learning how to now.
