Los Angeles, CA — How awesome is it to be born into the West family . . . let alone through a surrogate! Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West‘s second daughter and third child has arrived, Kim K shared via her website and verified social media accounts Tuesday morning. The baby girl, who the couple have elected to name Chicago West, was born Monday, Jan. 15, at 12:47 a.m., weighing 7 lbs., 6 oz.
In a post titled “She’s Here!”, Kardashian West wrote: “Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl. We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care.”
The new addition makes a total of five now at the West household; she joins big sis North, 4½ and big bro Saint, 2. In June 2017, a source close to the family leaked that the KUWTK star and the “Stand Up” producer had hired a surrogate to assist in the expansion of their family and the surrogate’s pregnancy was later confirmed in September.
Kardashian West has been very open about the complications she endured throughout both of her pregnancies. “I want my kids to have siblings, but the doctors don’t feel like it’s safe for me.” she stated on the previous season of KUWTK. When Kim K was preggo with North, she had pre-eclampsia, a complication defined by high blood pressure. And in both pregnancies, she suffered from placenta accreta, which happens when the placenta attaches too deeply in the uterine wall. “Kim had been looking for a surrogate for months until recently when she found the perfect candidate. The entire family is over the moon,” the source said back in September. “Given her health scares in the past, Kim felt the need to hire a surrogacy agency that helped serve as the liaison in finding a healthy woman who would be a great surrogate option for her and Kanye,” the source clarified.
Prior to Tuesday, Kim expressed the route of surrogacy was honestly more difficult (emotionally) than experiencing pregnancy. “Anyone that says or thinks it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong,” said Mrs. West. “I think it is so much harder to go through it this way, because you are not really in control.” “Obviously you pick someone that you completely trust and that you have a good bond and relationship with, but it is still … knowing that I was able to carry my first two babies and not my baby now, it’s hard for me,” she emphasized. “It’s definitely a harder experience than I anticipated just in the control area.”
Chicago West, is the first baby to show up during (what some might call) a ‘KarJenner baby boom’! Kardashian West’s sisters Kylie Jenner and Khloé Kardashian are both expecting their first children in 2018 — a boy for Kardashian, 33, and a girl for Jenner, 20.
