Charlamagne Tha God |Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It | @wazzuptonight

New York, New York – Who ever said; “When Opportunity knocks, open the door?” Whomever uttered that statement should be shot and gagged. That’s perhaps the number one problem we face in this egotistical society! Wait for opportunity to knock if you dare! Opportunity is a fundamental gift that reserves itself for those who take and embrace a situation by exerting effort to make it happen. Charlamagne Tha God, the co-host of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club explains in his new book Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It, how embracing one’s truths is the fundamental key to success and happiness.

Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It

In the book, Charlamagne Tha God reveals the road to happiness and prosperity by illustrating his success through a series of choices and decisions that ultimately shaped his life.  The book gives a unique perspective into how living an authentic life will ultimately lead one to a truth. Charlamagne Tha God provides 8 key principles that will empower the masses while bringing the reader to the realization that this life is ultimately, what you make it. The man that has entertained listening audience through controversial, over the top spins on life, celebrity news, and politics takes readers to rural South Carolina, as he elaborates on how he used books to transcend his circumstances. Charlamagne shares a trouble childhood riddled with mistakes and mishaps; however, unlike many, he took ownership of the fact that he was the culprit. Everyone makes mistakes! To error is to be human, but to learn and gather knowledge of how one can utilize mistakes to bring change and positivity is the key to living in harmony.

Winning is a choice! What determines your success is in the definition that can only be defined by you. A solid commitment to honesty must coincide with a truth, your truth. Every man, child, and woman possesses a gift which usually presents itself by a dream. So many of us give up on the dream out of fear of succeeding. Charlamagne Tha God, Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It, is what I would call a guide to self confidence and knowing one’s self worth.  As in the book, Principle 4 states: “There are no losses, only lessons” – Lets just marinate on the principle for a second. Charlamagne message resonates to the reader in that no matter the situation, there is a metaphoric lesson to be learned. To draw a contrast, for every fall, its the process of picking yourself up off the mat where the lessons should take root. The problem is;  many bounce from the fall without recourse or thought of the process that caused the fall. To reiterate, even further, some of us just fail to get back up, period.

Layman’s Terms

Let’s dissect the book title, shall we: Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It. We’ve all heard the saying “White Privilege” used loosely in society. Well folks, it exists as a factual privilege given at birth to those of the Anglo-Saxon race of people, not only in America, but worldwide. Believe me folks, it comes with its perks and self proclaimed righteousness that creates its own preconceived path to success. On the other end of the spectrum, Charlamagne Tha God introduces “Black Privilege” in the book. Yes, it is indeed a privilege to be Black, African American. To be Black in America comes with a rich tradition of overcoming the impossible to achieve dreams through the richness of our cultural roots. However, that leads to the second half of the title, “Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It”, where Charlamagne exclaims, “this for the dreamers, for the optimists; this book is about embracing who and what you are regardless of race gender, sexuality, and class. God gave you the privilege of this thing called life so regardless of what this society tells you that you can’t do and what you don’t have to understand you lack nothing God gave you everything you need to succeed.”

From the days as a child in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, to achieving massive  success with The Breakfast Club and numerous on-air opportunities, Charlamagne Tha God has excelled in seizing the moment. Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It, not only chronicles his path to success, but the book serves as a gift of empowerment to people of all races, creeds, and sexuality. In recent times, Charlamagne uses his platform to serve as a leading voice and philanthropist in the African American community by spreading the message of love and unity.

Overall, I found this book to be a powerful, in-depth look into the mirror of oneself. I strongly recommend reading and applying the 8 principles found in the text, while evaluating yourself along the way! The Wazzup Tonight staff wish continued success to Charlamagne and family!
