Los Angeles, CA – Yes Janet, throw it up for the strong single ladies! It’s been reported that superstar actors Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck filed divorce petitions on Thursday, officially ending their marriage more than a year after they publicly announced that their relationship was over.
In June 2015, after 10 years of marriage Affleck and Garner disclosed their plans to divorce. Many speculated that the reason behind the couple’s breakup was Affleck’s supposed affair with their children’s nanny, Christine Ouzounian. Garner touched on the sensitive subject in a previous interview with Vanity Fair magazine. “Let me just tell you something,” Garner says, “We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny. She had nothing to with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation.”. Garner continued, “Bad judgment? YES. It’s not great for your kids for [a nanny] to disappear from their lives. I have had to have conversations [with my children] about the meaning of ‘scandal.'”.
A little rough, though overall Affleck and Garner’s separation/divorce has been astonishingly cordial. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children,” Garner and Affleck said in a joint statement.
Garner says she has now accepted a future without Affleck as her husband. “The main thing is these kids — and we’re completely in line with what we hope for them,” she asserts. “Sure, I lost a dream of dancing with my husband at my daughter’s wedding. But you should see their faces when he walks through the door. And if you see your kids love someone so purely and wholly, then you’re going to be friends with that person.”.
